Batavia is a city and the county seat of Genesee County, New York. It is near the center of the county, and is surrounded by the Town of Batavia.  In 2006, a national magazine ranked Batavia third among the nation’s micropolitans based on economic development.

The name is Latin for the Betuwe region of the Netherlands and honors early Dutch land developers. The second Holland Land Office, built in 1815, is now a museum. Also of note are the Batavi Muckdogs, a baseball club in the New York-Penn League, and an affiliate of the Miami Marlins.

In 2018, the median household income of Batavia’s 14,397 residents was $48,190.
