Business Manager – CCBN Family of Parishes

Primary Function: The CCBN Family of Churches Business Manager oversees the day-to-day business, accounting and facilities functions of 6 North Buffalo Catholic Churches. Oversees financial accounting system including accounts payable, receivable and cash receipts. Manages preparation of financial statements, budgets and reconciliation against budget.

Reports to: Pastor

Essential Responsibilities:
• Oversees maintenance of accounting records according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Manages general accounting functions for the 6 churches of the family, including generating financial reports and preparing various financial analyses as required for the Pastor.
• Manages preparation of balance sheet, profit and loss statements, monthly closing reports and other reports to summarize financial position. vs. budget. This includes reviewing and explaining any major variances.
• Manages preparation of the annual budgets for each parish in collaboration with the Pastor, the Family and individual parish Finance Councils.
• Oversees the reconciliation of all bank accounts and investment accounts monthly.
• Responsible for the development, write up, modification and implementation of accounting procedures, systems and internal controls.
• Provides financial information as required to the Pastor, Family and individual parish Finance Councils
• Communicate financial information in an understandable form for non-technical people using both written and verbal skills
• Review/audits accounting and operational records to ensure accuracy of information and examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformity with agreements, contracts, and applicable federal regulations.
• Oversees maintenance of Parish files and records, including but not limited to: fixed asset inventories, leases, grants, contacts, insurance, closing statements, environmental modifications and other agreements.
• Oversees all aspects of weekly collections counting procedures
• Monitor inventory of supplies, fixed assets, work in process and inventory of spaces for all locations.
• Manages Accounts Payable function, including review of invoices and creation of semi-weekly disbursements. Set up new vendors in A/P system. Reconcile vendor activity for 1099 preparation.
• Oversees payroll and payroll allocations by program.
• Act as administrator for Human Resources and fringe benefits for Family employees.
• Assists parish Finance Councils on making investment decisions. Oversees process transfers of operating and investment funds as approved by the Pastor and Finance Council
• Assist auditors during the audit of the Parish by fulfilling their requests for documentation and other information integral to the audit. Prepare year-end financial statements.
• Manages vendor relations and third party contractors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
• Manages facilities/ maintenance staffs for 6 family parishes

Management and Leadership:
• Manage support staff in collaboration with Pastor including administrative staffing across the Family as directed.
• Develop mutually respectful and collaborative relationships with all team members.
• Participates in the selection process of new hires.
• Establishes and appraises performance levels of subordinates.
• Monitors compliance with Diocese of Buffalo and CCBN Family policies and procedures.
• Constantly maintains high professional standards at work with regard to personal behavior and interactions with other staff, individuals, and outside organizations.
• Provides for staff development and training, including orientation, in-service training and use of internal and external resources for training.
• Participates in professional development to remain current on changing trends and program requirements.
• Provides consultation, supervision, and instruction to staff through individual and staff meetings in order to assist staff in development of skills.
• Consistently complies with all Parish policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Education: Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience is required

Experience: Desired five – seven years in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with progressively responsible experience and three years in a supervisory role. Requires knowledge & training in a full range of accounting/financial matters, general business management and understanding not-for-profit issues.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Physical demands are typical of an office environment

Salary: Range $20 to $32 per hour, depending on experience. Health and dental coverage is available.

Hours worked: This position is a 30 to 35 hours a week role. Flexible work hours are available.
