CNC Maintenance TechnicianFacility: Buffalo, NY
General Description
The CNC Technician is responsible for creating new CNC programs for production with the goal of making the program as short a cycle time as possible while still producing a quality part that is safe for production to run. They are responsible for troubleshooting issues with the CNC equipment and modifying the tooling and programming as needed. They will run the first piece samples and machine small orders while training production operators on how to successfully run larger orders. They must demonstrate the ability to take directions from the immediate manager and designated management representatives.
Specific Duties
• Ensure that all employees are following company safety policies (safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.).
• Create CNC Programs as requested by APU for products that require machining. Set appropriate speeds and feeds and assign all machine offsets. May include using CAM software for products with complex features to program.
• Train Production Shift Leader or designee on new jobs and complete a training form.
• Troubleshoot issues with machining and offer recommendations for improvement. Review machines at time of crash, repair to machine to safe operation, and recommend opportunities for improvement.
• Complete set up changes and run first piece. Complete first piece inspection with Quality Department. Machine small orders complete and for larger orders train Production Shift Leader or designee how to machine, debur, inspect, and test parts for production.
• Maintain CNC Program Log for all CNC Programs used in Buffalo and UAE.
• Change tools in mill and lathe as required for various part requirements prior to production operators machining. Train others at the changeover process when appropriate.
• Build or modify machine fixtures as needed during runoff for correct fitment with parts. Guidance will be provided on the modifications from manufacturing engineering or department manager.
• Work with Engineering on new parts as requested by department manager. Offer suggestions on designs for ease of machining and production cycle time. Participate actively in Design Reviews.
• Make recommendations on new machining tools that will reduce time involved in programming, setup, and cycle time.
• Special machining projects as assigned by department manager, depending on current production workload and machine availability.
• Work overtime as required.
• Communicate professionally with everyone in the plant, including office employees and shop floor employees.
• Will maintain responsibilities of a Maintenance Technician or otherwise assigned job description.
• Follow all applicable environmental, health and safety rules and procedures and immediately report all dangerous situations, near-misses, and injuries.
• Participate in developing and updating risk assessments and review all applicable risk assessments annually.

Qualifications
• Basic understanding of CNC mill and lathe is required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with CNC operation and CNC programming preferred.
• Previous training or certification on creating CNC programming is required.
• Excellent attention to detail needed for creating new CNC programs.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Must be able to work in a non-airconditioned environment for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, safety rules, blueprints, schematics, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures/manuals.
• HS Diploma or GED required.
Physical Demands
• The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
• The employee frequently is required to stand; walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. A large degree of lifting (moderate to heavyweight), bending, squatting, and maneuvering. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, for viewing a computer terminal distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception vision for moving objects and ability to adjust focus.
• This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
• The ability to work with chemicals in the proper environment and while wearing PPE.
Personal Protective Equipment
The following list of PPE is required while in the manufacturing area:
• Safety Glasses conforming to ANSI Z87.1 or higher
• Steel Toe Safety Shoes conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 29 CFR 1910
• Hearing protection conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 29 CFR 1910
• The ability to wear a dust mask conforming to OSHA General Industry Standards 39 CFR 1910.134
• Additional PPE may be required depending on the department
