Develop treatment plans and provide ongoing evaluations based on the student’s abilities and progress.
Engage students in a wide range of functional activities including fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing and visual perceptual skills, as well as activities of daily living.

Essential Functions:
1. Evaluates, plans and provides individual therapy programming as indicated by the IEP (Individualized Education Plan)
2. Documents evaluations, treatment goals, plans and student progress
3. Provides supervision, evaluation and work assignments to assigned certified occupational therapy assistant and student therapists and/or volunteers
4. Develop and implement therapeutic programs such as oral motor/feeding, sensory diet, assistive devices and self-help techniques.
5. Provide classroom staff with instruction related to student programs
6. Responsible for own involvement as contributing team member involving group decision making and the development of a positive, cooperative learning and work environment
7. Communicate effectively with staff, families and other professional and support staff in order to achieve positive student outcomes
8. Enhance professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, workshops, etc. Maintain current professional development standards as required by NBCOT
9. Performs related work as required

Job Specifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and New York Licensor; Certification in Occupational Therapy
• Necessary knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the students
• Understanding of child development
• Compassionate understanding of and genuine concern for children with multiple disabilities and their families
• Ability to communicate with students, staff members, and parents in a cordial and professional manner
• Ability to work in an educational setting in a confidential and professional manner
• Daily lifting, movement and transferring of students is required
• Team/mechanical lifting of students and or equipment and materials
• Movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices is required
• Other physical activities may be required
• Occasional travel with students on medical appointments and field trips may be necessary
• Use of universal precautions is required at all times as physical contact with and/or possible exposure to bodily fluids may occur
• This is a 12 month position.
