Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00
The Assistant Director of Nursing and Resident Care Services is responsible for coordination and administration of health care services to all residents of the Schofield Residence under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and Resident Care Services.Qualifications
A. Education and Training - A Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is preferred but an associate’s in applied science in Nursing candidate would be considered. Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse. Current driver's license. Must be willing to pursue any training which may be necessary for future certification as an Assistant Director of Nursing for a skilled nursing facility. Must be PRI certified.
B. Experience - A minimum of two years’ long-term care nursing supervisory experience is essential. Computer experience required.
C. Character - The individual must possess good moral character, patience, and compassion for the elderly, and keep all information in the strictest confidence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Nursing and Resident Care Services is supervised by the Director of Nursing and Resident Care Services.
The job duties and responsibilities are to be performed while observing the following standards: job standard (knowledge, ability, skills), technical skill, quality, quantity, judgement/problem solving, decision making, and initiative.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Nursing
1. Assess resident care needs and provide appropriately for them, including, but not limited to, supplies, outside consultants, appropriate number and skill level of personnel and equipment.
2. Represent the department at facility meetings including, but not limited to: Resident Care Plan, Nursing Facility Operations, Quality Assurance, and Nursing Supervisor meetings.
3. Establish, implement, and participate in a quality assurance program for the Nursing and Resident Care Services Department. Complete QA Audits as directed.
4. Participate in the admissions procedure including, but not limited to, screening potential residents and assisting Administration in establishing/maintaining admission criteria.
5. Accurately meet New York State Department of Health requirements for assessing resident needs through mandated assessment tools such as PRI, MDS+, etc.
6. Promote a total resident care plan through coordination, integration, and cooperation between and among each department and the Nursing and Resident Care Services Departments.
7. Ensure timely, efficient meals and nourishment delivery.
8. Identify the nursing rehabilitation of residents and direct its implementation in conjunction with the therapies to assist the resident in achieving and maintaining his highest level of self-care, respect, independence, and well-being.
9. Complete resident chart review for review of clinical issues.
10. Oversee Infection Control Program in conjunction with the In-service Coordinator and/or designee.
11. Maintain a skin team and assure that rounds are completed at least weekly, in conjunction with the In-service Coordinator and/or designee.
12. Assume responsibility of In-service Coordinator in her absence.
13. Review accident/incident reports for completeness, assure appropriate follow-up and potential or actual resident reportable issues. Assess individual or facility trends through incident report tracking.
14. Assess reported complaints or concerns regarding resident care and ensure appropriate follow-up/resolution.
15. Maintain nursing and resident care services policies and procedures.
16. Be responsible for all controlled drugs in the facility. Will destroy (along with the pharmacy consultant) all discontinued controlled drugs on a regular basis following established procedures by the State Narcotics Board.
17. Meet with the pharmacy consultant to discuss problem areas regarding medications.
18. Work with the provider pharmacy and physicians to complete pre-authorization for drugs.
19. Monitor medical records audit of charts for nursing omissions/issues.
20. Oversee Medicare:
Assess residents for technical eligibility and assure daily skilled care coverage criteria is met.
Communicate to Health Information, Admissions, Finance, Social Services and interdisciplinary team, notice of resident Medicare Part A coverage, non-coverage and cut dates.
Facilitate consolidated billing by communicating with vendors and outside providers, notice of resident Medicare Part A coverage, non-coverage and cut dates.
Provide the Finance Department with a list of in-house supplies utilized by each Medicare Part A covered resident, monthly, for UB-92.
Review UB-92’s prior to submission to ensure accuracy of billed services.
Ensure physician certification and recertification of Medicare Part A occurs in prescribed intervals.
Identify residents utilizing supplies eligible for Medicare Part B reimbursement, and facilitate provision of supplies with designated Medicare Part B vendor.
Review documentation and PPS scores for Medicare Part A coverage criteria.
21. Facilitate communication with HMO’s regarding coverage of resident services. Ensure updates are provided in prescribed intervals.
22. Consult Medical Director, as needed, on issues related to the provision of physician services.
23. Oversee, develop, and monitor Restorative Nursing Programs.
24. Assume duties of the Director of Nursing and Resident Care Services in her absence.

Qualifications

Character - Must possess good moral character, compassion for the elderly, have ability to manage licensed and allied nursing personnel, and create/maintain good staff relationships; must maintain all information in the strictest of confidence.
Interpersonal skills - must possess the ability to communicate in a calm, non-threatening manner with residents, families, volunteers multidisciplinary team and co-workers. Is an advocate for the Schofield Residence, its purposes, goals and policies.
