Job Responsibilities:
Work is performed under the supervision of a professional accountant for a review of work and reports for conformance to established procedures.
1. Reviews and processes financial transactions, which may include invoices, billings, cash receipts, cash disbursements, budget amendments, payroll transactions, federal grants, etc.
2. Entry level professional accounting duties requiring the application of accounting principles and practices in a wide range of activities.
3. Prepares standard financial reports for use by Board of Education, division and finance staff.
4. Review and check such financial records as contract billing, invoicing and travel conferences’ for accuracy and conformance to standards.
5. Prepare a variety of accounting and budget reports for review by their supervisor.
6. Assist in reconciling and balancing financial and budget reports.
7. Complies data for statistical and financial reporting purposes.
8. Reviews and checks financial documents for accuracy.
9. Reconciles financial information, identifies and resolves issues.
10. Assists in developing and/or revising documentation for critical internal financial functions, ensuring documentation is indexed for ease of use and updated annually.
11. Reviews current transaction processes and recommends changes that enhance internal controls and/or efficiency.
12. Trains other team members on critical functions; thereby ensuring departmental effectiveness.
Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:
There is no civil service examination required for this position for the duration of the NY HELPS Program. Candidates must meet the minimum civil service qualifications for a NY HELPS appointment as follows:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance; OR
B) An Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance and two (2) years of satisfactory accounting or auditing experience; OR
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
Additional Qualifications:
Experience in finance, accounting, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
