Salary Range: $30 – $38 per hour, commensurate with experience

As CNC Lathe Machinist at HFW, you'll own the process from print to finished part: setting up, programming, and operating our lathes, including large-format CNC turning centers (up to 37 in. swing x 200 in. length) and a CNC vertical turning lathe, to produce and recondition precision components that keep our customers' equipment running.

HFW provides manufacturing and repair services for precision industrial equipment serving the power generation, oil & gas, and chemical processing industries.
The work is high-precision and high-stakes: our customers run critical equipment, and the parts you machine have to perform.
You'll join a small, close-knit machining team reporting to the Plant Manager, with a clear path to grow into Lead Machinist and supervisory roles as the team scales.

Responsibilities
• Set up, program, and operate manual and CNC lathes for precision turning, boring, and facing operations.
• Write and edit CNC programs from blueprints and job travelers, including offsets and tooling adjustments.
• Interpret engineering blueprints, GD&T callouts, and job travelers to determine feeds, speeds, fixturing, and tooling.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, and height gauges to verify dimensions throughout the process.
• Identify out-of-tolerance conditions and correct through program edits or setup adjustments.
• Collaborate with engineers and machinists on fixturing challenges and process improvements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with shop standards.

Qualifications
• 5+ years of lathe machining experience in a precision job shop, OEM, or industrial repair environment.
• Demonstrated ability to program CNC lathes from print to first article.
• Demonstrated ability to set up, not just run, manual and CNC lathes.
• Proficiency reading engineering drawings including GD&T callouts.
• Experience with precision measurement and inspection instruments.
• Familiarity with CAM software (Mastercam or Fusion) is a plus.
• Background in power generation, chemical processing, oil and gas, mining, or similar precision industries is a strong advantage.
• Manual lathe experience is a plus.
