Salary Range: Compensation is NYSDOL Prevailing Wage.

Municipal Utility Operator

To be a successful Operator you must have experience in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of Construction
Equipment.
Russo Development Staff will assess the skill level of Operators and expect a climate of continuous
improvement is maintained.
In addition to operating the equipment, it is expected that the operator will assist the Fleet & Facility Crew in maintaining all equipment and implements.

This position is a dedicated Municipal Contract Employee. Typical Hours will be Monday – Friday. However,
emergencies and unscheduled work requirements do occur on occasion.
Compensation is NYSDOL Prevailing Wage.

Critical Responsibilities
• Transport and Operate Excavator. Familiar with Loading and Unloading same.
• Ability to use various implements including hydraulic hammer.
• Experience with underground utility locating devices.
• Use of underground drilling equipment and copper pipe fitting.
• Dig and refill cuts to reach valves, broken lines, new service locations, etc.
• Thaws frozen hydrants and lines.
• Water Service and line replacements.
• Operates pneumatic and power tools for cutting concrete and asphalt.
• Loading of crew truck with materials and tools as needed.
• Ability to repair water main lines, valves, and other equipment in the water distribution system.
• Ability to inspect and test hydrants and valves to ensure proper operation, performing maintenance and repair as required.
• Completes routine reports regarding maintenance and repair activities, work orders, and other forms.
• Sets up flashers, barriers and other safety equipment and apparatus to ensure required safety practices and
• procedures at the work sites are maintained.
• Operates various motorized vehicles and equipment to deliver supplies and materials to and from work sites,
including backhoes, loaders, pumps, etc. at the work site to excavate, move material and backfill excavations.
• Reads maps and drawings to locate valves and water mains;
• Performs a variety of related manual tasks.

simple repairs and adjustments; ability to lift; willingness to perform routine manual work; willingness to work
under all weather conditions and long hours in emergencies.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid CDL Class A New York State Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
