Salary Range: $54,000-$92,000 commensurate with experience
Orleans/Niagara BOCES is looking for a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician / Fire Science Instructor to join our team.This position provides a unique opportunity to mentor and train the next generation of EMS and Fire Service professionals, preparing students for rewarding careers in these critical fields.
The instructor will lead both classroom lessons and hands-on training in emergency medical services and fire science, covering essential topics such as life-saving techniques, fire suppression tactics, rescue operations, and safety protocols.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities Required:
Knowledge and Competency Desired: Deliver training in ICS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS-200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, IS-700: National Incident Management System, An Introduction, and IS-800: National Response Framework, An Introduction.
Provide instruction in AWR160 WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders and Hazmat Awareness. Train students in basic EMS operations, with a focus on Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Conduct training aligned with the Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) standards for Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO). Deliver practical, hands-on guidance for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use, maintenance, and safety protocols. Assess student proficiency in Job Performance Requirements (JPR) as outlined in NFPA 1001, covering core skills and standards for Firefighter Professional qualifications.
Extensive knowledge of and experience with Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS), ensuring student readiness for real-world emergency management and incident command scenarios.
Proven ability to train and evaluate students in BLS, Adult CPR, and AED usage. Proficiency in OFPC Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO) standards and teaching techniques.
Competence in assessing and tracking student performance according to NFPA 1001 standards.
Ability to inspire and support students in acquiring foundational skills and technical competencies in Firefighting and EMS fields.
Demonstrated ability to connect with students and foster a positive learning environment that emphasizes safety, competency, and professionalism.
The individual should have or be eligible for certification upon hire.
It is anticipated that an individual would qualify for certification with successful completion of fingerprinting and three workshops. Regular attendance and dependability are required. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

Educational Requirements:
1. Associate Degree or higher in Emergency & Fire Management Services with at least 2 years of occupational work experience in Emergency & Fire Management Services; or High School Diploma, GED, or HSE with at least 4 years of occupational work experience in Emergency & Fire Management Services; or Holds an Industry related credential, with at least 2 years of occupational work experience in Emergency & Fire Management Services.
2. Associate Degree or higher in Emergency Medical Services with at least 2 years of occupational work experience in Emergency Medical Services; or High School Diploma, GED or HSE with at least 4 years of occupational work experience in Emergency Medical Services; or Holds an Industry related credential, with at least 2 years of occupational work experience in Emergency & Fire Management Services.
If holding a High School Diploma, GED, or HSE, the candidate must be able to pass the Communicative and Quantitative Skills Test (CQST).
Certification Requirements: Must hold or be able to obtain the NYS Department of Education Emergency Medical Services Teacher Certification. Must hold or be able to obtain the NYS EMT or Paramedic certification - Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) Must hold or be able to obtain the NYS Department of Education Emergency & Fire Management Teacher Certification. Must hold or be able to obtain the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control National Training Certification in Fire and Emergency Services Instructor
Anticipated Salary: $54,000-$92,000 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
