Medaille College seeks applications for a Director of Campus Safety (DCS). Under the direction of the Vice President for Student Development, the Director of Campus Safety has overall responsibility for the management of campus safety efforts at Medaille College, including the development and implementation of emergency and incident management plans for the safety and security of students, staff, faculty and visitors, in accordance with Medaille’s policies and procedures and emergency response plan. The DCS is responsible for providing the supervision, training, and scheduling of all officers. The DCS is also responsible for the development and enforcement of necessary policies related to parking and overall security on campus. The DCS must serve in an on-call basis ready to respond and direct campus emergencies both in-person and remotely as needed. Serving as a senior member of the Student Development team the DCS will participate in conduct hearings, as needed, and serve on various campus wide committees. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and verbal communications and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students with a clear understanding of student development theory and Medaille policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will oversee the daily operation of the Campus Safety office including safety; fleet management; access control for electronic swipe mechanisms; campus I.D.’s for students and employees. Will create a vision for the department of Campus Safety that is built around best practices in the profession and act as a liaison between the private campus safety provider and Medaille College. This is a 12-month position that will require evening and weekend availability as well as supervision of officers on holidays and weekends.
The Director of Campus Safety must have a minimum of an earned Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, etc.; Master’s Degree preferred. The Director of Campus Safety must have prior experience in the field of safety and security; experience at a higher education institution within a campus safety department and a supervisor of staff is preferred, preferably at the Director or Assistant/Associate Director level. Must be able to manage and direct a staff of NYS certified Campus Safety Officers in order to maintain competent 24-hour coverage in a higher education setting. The DCS must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and have a working knowledge of technology used in the profession. NYS Security, NIMS/ICS, CPR, and AED certification are required or a willingness to obtain such upon hire.
