In this position, you will design, modify, and evaluate embedded software, for electronic apparatus, components, or circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices. You will perform engineering work in basic and applied research, development, and/or design of new products and/or sustaining of existing products.
Performs complex engineering work exercising independent judgment and action. Works closely with customers to understand equipment/system requirements and to ensure that the product(s) work in the application(s).
Candidates are expected to demonstrate experience in the design and development of digital control and communication firmware, and software for electronic hardware components. Additionally, candidates should be familiar with software development best practices and commonly used tools.

• Responsible for the definition, modelling, characterization, design, documentation, coding, bench verification, and troubleshooting of digital control algorithms, firmware & software to control HV power supplies and amplifiers in addition to precision instrumentation
• Responsible for the specification, architecting, design, implementation, and test of real-time embedded software
• Responsible to document and communicate work and to solicit feedback from peers using design reviews
• Responsible to diagnose complex issues with design, field performance, reliability, and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions
• Participate with power electronics engineers/technicians in the testing of firmware, controls, and software
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and service personnel as needed to identify and address firmware and/or hardware related issues
• Follow key engineering procedures including the Product Development Process, ECO process, and use of source control and defect tracking tools
• Lead local effort to implement software best practices in coordination with wider AE team.

• Demonstrated experience of working knowledge of C programming language
• Understand debuggers and emulators
• Working knowledge with commonly used programming tools: BitBucket, Doxygen
• Experience with serial communications, I2C, SPI
• Strongly prefer experience with serial communication devices and protocols: EtherCAT, DeviceNet, Ethernet, PROFIBUS, PROFINET
• Experience with FPGA coding
• Prefer working knowledge of DSP & RTOS
• Prefer experience with digital control of power electronics and PWM switching
• Prefer working experience with configuration control and engineering change tracking systems
• Prefer experience of creating control software (GUI, Labview) to control/calibrate products
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and with significant autonomy
• Dynamic, motivated, self-starter with strong work ethic and ability to quickly learn new products and tools
• Ability to effectively communicate and be able to interface on a professional level with a wide variety of technical disciplines
• Ability to work directly with customers to define requirements and specifications

• BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar degree
